Kode Dot Schematics Complete and the First Kode Ecosystem Beta

Kode Dot is a pocket-size, open-source device for makers, hackers and geeks: a handheld you can program, extend with modules and use to talk to the electronics around you. It started as a Kickstarter campaign, got funded, and has been moving toward production ever since.

March was one of the most intense months of that journey, and the results speak for themselves. The hardware got locked, the product started getting a soul, and the ecosystem around it prepared to go live. Here is how it happened.

Schematics complete, nothing cut

The final schematics for the Kode Dot are complete. Every single functionality promised during the campaign is in there: no compromises, no cuts.

That sentence is short, but it is the hardest kind of milestone to earn. Locking the schematics means every feature survived the fight with physics, cost and board space; from here the work moves into production tooling and validation.

As promised, the schematics will be released as open source. Until then, this architecture diagram maps every component and connection inside the device.

A brand new soul: the Kode ecosystem beta

Hardware is only half of a maker device. The other half is what you meet when you switch it on: kodeOS running on the device, and the companion app and online platform that connect it to other makers.

On April 1st, the first beta of the Kode App and the online ecosystem goes live. It is the platform designed to make the Kode Dot experience fluid, fun and connected.

The beta rolls out first to the 20 pre-production users who already have a Kode Dot in their hands. Their real-world feedback will shape the final experience before it reaches more than 14,000 backers.

Design partners worth carrying

We have always said the Kode Dot is not just a gadget; it is a tool you will want on you at all times. That means it has to look and feel the part, so this month we brought in two partners to raise that bar.

For the brand, we partnered with Rubio y del Amo, a multidisciplinary design studio based in Murcia with over 10 years of experience building brands that stand out, from the Spanish Space Agency to Cabify. They are shaping Kode's definitive visual identity: nothing generic, nothing forgettable.

For the industrial redesign, we teamed up with SK-PD. Their mission is to make the Kode Dot scalable for high-volume manufacturing without losing its soul: beautiful textures, carefully selected finishes and a user-centric approach from the first prototype to the final assembly.

We do not just want to deliver a product that works. We want to deliver something you are proud to carry.

The company behind the device

A lot happens behind the scenes that never makes a spec sheet, so here is how the company itself is being built. Kode has no external investors and no plans to bring any in: the two founders spent their personal savings from working at Celestica to get the project off the ground, and they still fully own the company. That independence is what lets the team move fast and innovate without pressure.

The finances got serious too. Since joining the Lanzadera startup incubator, the team hired Asfin as external CFO and is advised by people with over 20 years of experience at Spain's largest banks; every cent is tracked against a full cash flow forecast for the year.

And the team is growing: from the two founders to a team of 5, with plans to reach 10 by the end of the year.

Locked hardware, a soul taking shape and a company built to last: every month this project gets more real. The Kode Dot is available for pre-order while it moves through production.
